Farm update

I thought it is about time for an update on the farm! I'm not sure if I have many readers.

AnnaBelle our calf is growing, growing, growing! She enjoys lush grass. She has a very cute personality! We are hoping we can sell her soon.

Rosie our milk cow has been giving about 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 each milking! She is pregnant and due at the end of March! We are hoping her pregnancy will go well and she will throw another heifer! We have hardly any grass so she is mainly on hay and whatever dry stuff she can get!

Obie our beef cow is getting bigger as well. He will be in the freezer in a couple of months! It is so nice to be able to raise our own healthy organic meat!

Our old laying hens have been laying pretty faithfully! One of our chickens we found dead on a nest full of eggs. We are thinking a snake must have killed her :(

Our new laying hens are growing and should be laying in a couple of months! We have about 5 roosters and 15 hens! Hopefully they will lay faithfully as well!

Our guineas are the funniest creatures. They free range all day all thought they would rather stay with the new laying hens! They are very good bug eaters! They are very good alarmists!

The quail are doing well also. We only have two left. They should be laying in a couple of weeks! I think we are planning on trying to sell their eggs!

Mister Plush also is doing good! He is one of the best cats we have ever had.

Our garden is very pitiful this year. Since it has gotten hot nothing is bearing fruit so hopefully once it gets cooler then we will get plenty! We are planning on planting cucumbers and tomato plants and probably more green beans!

So there is the update on the farm!

Friday Musings...

We have been pretty busy this week. Here are some of the things we have been doing:

Yesterday we planted more of our garden. We planted sunflowers, lettuce, green beans and pinto beans. On Monday we planted our tomato plants. Everything is growing so well in the garden. Hopefully we won't have a drought this year, so everything will grow well.

I have been busy milking the cow and having customers come and get the milk. I have made Mozzarella, Ricotta and Cream Cheese. It all came out very delicious.

AnnaBelle is doing so well. She is growing good. I have been halter breaking her. She does pretty good on the halter.

We put 42 eggs in the incubator, so they are supposed to start hatching on Thursday. Hopefully we will have little fuzzy friends!

Update

Today we got 2 1/4" of rain!! :) We desperately needed the rain!

Since it has been ssssooo warm the daffodils are already coming up and there are a few blooms! It is hard to believe that it is at the beginning of February and we haven't had cold tempatures! Hopefully it stays this way and we go right into Spring!

We also are going to start planting our garden! YEAH! R & L are going to till the garden pretty soon and then we are going to plant radishes, lettuce, potatoes, etc. Anything that grows good when it is cool and not too hot.

We are getting about 8-11 eggs a day! We have been letting them free range and so that helps some. We are wanting to get some more chicks in the Spring. We might get some banty's. They are so funny to watch since they are so little.

I would post some pics but the internet is slow.

Farm Life

I have been absent from the blog lately. We have been pretty busy.

On Thursday we got 10 turkeys. One of the turkeys somehow got out of the pen and got away so now we only have 9. They are 6 weeks old! The breeds are Bourbon Red and Blue Slate. We can't wait to have Thanksgiving dinner with home grown turkeys! YUMMY!!!

Our garden is growing, growing, growing! We have green tomatoes, peppers and cucmbers on the vine. Soon we will be having tomato and cucumber salad. Our corn is growing as well. Oh I almost forgot we also have green beans that we are going to pick next week.

Next week I am going to my sister Abigail's house. Since she is now pregnant she needs some help with her little boy James! I can't wait!!
