I thought it is about time for an update on the farm! I'm not sure if I have many readers.
AnnaBelle our calf is growing, growing, growing! She enjoys lush grass. She has a very cute personality! We are hoping we can sell her soon.
Rosie our milk cow has been giving about 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 each milking! She is pregnant and due at the end of March! We are hoping her pregnancy will go well and she will throw another heifer! We have hardly any grass so she is mainly on hay and whatever dry stuff she can get!
Obie our beef cow is getting bigger as well. He will be in the freezer in a couple of months! It is so nice to be able to raise our own healthy organic meat!
Our old laying hens have been laying pretty faithfully! One of our chickens we found dead on a nest full of eggs. We are thinking a snake must have killed her :(
Our new laying hens are growing and should be laying in a couple of months! We have about 5 roosters and 15 hens! Hopefully they will lay faithfully as well!
Our guineas are the funniest creatures. They free range all day all thought they would rather stay with the new laying hens! They are very good bug eaters! They are very good alarmists!
The quail are doing well also. We only have two left. They should be laying in a couple of weeks! I think we are planning on trying to sell their eggs!
Mister Plush also is doing good! He is one of the best cats we have ever had.
Our garden is very pitiful this year. Since it has gotten hot nothing is bearing fruit so hopefully once it gets cooler then we will get plenty! We are planning on planting cucumbers and tomato plants and probably more green beans!
So there is the update on the farm!

Enjoying Fall
We have been enjoying the beautiful Fall that we have been having. The leaves aren't pretty, but having it be in the 70's for a high during the day is gorgeous!!! We are so thankful that we don't have snow yet! Fall in Oklahoma is my favorite season.
We moved the cow into the barn for the winter. We have been feeding him hay because the grass isn't growing anymore. Somedays he is so fat I'm afraid the he won't be able to fit through the doorway but he always manages to!
Also, we are going to move the laying hens into the barn with the cow for the winter. Our landlord built some nesting boxes in the barn for them. We have been getting about 7-13 eggs a day. It depends on the day.
Mom and I also have been talking about our garden next year. We are trying to think of what we can do differently in case we do have another drought. If anyone has any ideas then please leave me a comment.

Update on the farm
We have been pretty busy lately.....
We moved half of the broiler chicks out to a pen on the pasture. They are enjoying being outside and enjoying the grass. It is amazing how fast broiler chicks grow! The other half are still in the barn. My uncle came down and helped us get the other pen critter proof so they will be out within the next couple days!!
We have started getting eggs from our layers! We are getting about 5 a day now and we have 12 hens so we should start getting more soon. It is so nice to have fresh farm eggs! My little sister and brother enjoy gathering the eggs. They always try to see who could be the first one out there to get the eggs!
I remember when I was about 5 or 6 I started praying that we could have some chickens, so we ended up moving to a property that we could have chickens. I think we got 12 hens and a rooster and it was my responsibility each day to take care of them. I remember when the first egg was laid, it was sooo exciting. So now I enjoy seeing my younger siblings getting the eggs and the excitement that goes with it!
We ended up pulling quite a bit of the garden up because it wasn't growing and producing much because of the heat. The only thing that we do have is peppers. They did really good this year despite the heat which is amazing. So we are still getting peppers but that is the only thing. We are not going to do a fall garden this year. We are going to get the soil tilled and get it ready for next year.
We have been letting the turkeys free range. They are really enjoying it. It is so funny to watch them because they all stay together. In about 5 weeks they are going to be in the freezer.

Happenings around the house
It has been very hot here lately! But within the next couple days it is supposed to start cooling down! By cooling down I mean higher 80's lower 90's :) I know to some of you, you are thinking cooling down.
But when you have had 100's nonstop for a few months then we are looking forward to the cooler temps!!
We are not going to be planting a fall garden this year, since it has been so hot. We are planning on taking everything out of the garden and tilling it for next year! Hopefully next year will be a better success!!
Today we are getting 50 meat chicks! They will be ready to butcher at the end of October beginning of November!! YUM YUM!! Healthy chicken is the best!!
Yesterday was the first day that we have started getting eggs from our chickens!! They are so cute and little at the start! It was so exciting to find them!

We have been busy with.....
getting ready to get a beef calf. We have some friends that have a dairy that we are going to get a calf from soon! We have a shed and one part of the shed is like a lean to so we put up fencing around it so that is where we are going to keep the calf while we are bottle feeding it. When it gets weaned off the bottle then we are going to get some electric netting for animals and we are going to put the cow in there to graze.
Also, our landlord bought 9 more Rhode Island Red chicks and they are so cute and fluffy! We have them in with our bigger chicks. Sometime soon we are going to start on the chicken tractors, because the ducks have pretty much outgrown the brooder!
Sorry that there is still no pictures. My sister Rebekah is the photographer and she is the one that downloads the pictures into the computer and she hasn't had time to. But someday I will be posting pics!
